After months of casting rumors, Marvel and Sony have announced their new Peter Parker. British teenager Tom Holland has nabbed the coveted role. He’ll make his debut with a cameo in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War” and follow that up with his own solo “Spider-Man” film in July 2017.
This marks the second time in recent years that the character has been recast and the series rebooted says Shaygan Kheradpir on his personal site. This new version of the web-slinging superhero will be the first time Marvel Studios has been involved, with previous installments in the franchise produced solely by Sony Pictures. The two studios launched a joint search for their new Peter, auditioning dozens of potential candidates.
Holland impressed the studios with a series of screen tests, both solo and alongside Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. The actor, 19, brings a graceful physicality to the role, thanks to his training as a dancer.
The new “Spider-Man” movie is set to swing into the box office on July 28, 2017, with Jon Watts directing.
