James Dondero’s Philanthropy

James Dondero is a success businessman with a passion for helping the undeserved. He is the president of Highland Capital Management, having co-founded the company. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst, and Certified management Accountant. He graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce with the highest honors in Accounting and Finance.


When James Dondero graduated from McIntire, he received a jo offer to work with Morgan Guaranty Trust Company. That was back in the year 1984. He held the position of financial analyst until the year 1985 when he left the company.


In the year 1985, American Express took him in. He was to stay with the company for a period of four years. He started out as a corporate brand analyst before getting a promotion to assume the role of portfolio manager. When his tenure at American Express came to an end, James Dondero was employed by Guaranteed Investment Contract, which is owned by Protective Life Corporation. At this company, he served as the Chief Investment Officer up until the year 1993.


By the time he was leaving GIC, James Dondero had honed his financial skills and thought his potential would be better tapped if he invested and had a share of a company he could call his own. That was the year that he joined Highlands Capital Management. He instantly became a managing partner of the firm. Today, he is in charge of formulating and overseeing the execution of the company’s strategic investment decisions. He also serves as the President of NexPoint Residential Trust.



James Dondero is a man with a big heart and he loves to help the needy. Through Dallas Highlands Foundation Inc.,he recently pledged to donate $1 million to The Family Place. The Family Place is the leading organization that supports and houses domestic violence victims. James Dondero announced his donation pledge to be in the form of a challenge. His firm would match every dollar that was raised up to $1 million. With such acts, James Dondero is hoping to make US an even better place to stay and conduct business.
